HISTORY
Our non-profit group was formed a little over 40 years ago to provide a meeting place in Silverton for 12-Step recovery groups and other related supportive and social activities.
The old wooden building at Third and High Streets, formerly a school in 1900, had been deeded to the SCC in 1976 by a group called the Royal Neighbors.
By 2019 it became apparent that substantial repairs and maintenance were needed and that we couldn't raise the money needed to keep the building our meeting hall. It was a very difficult decision to sell it, and heart-wrenching for some.
We are looking for a new location. With the proceeds from the sale, we will either purchase or build a new meeting place. This will ensure that this valuable resource does not disappear from Silverton!
HOW WE ARE GOVERNED
The Silverton Coffee Club (SCC) is governed by a Board of Directors made up of people who attend 12-step meetings at the SCC. The board is responsible for managing our facility's operations and maintenance.
The Board meets monthly. Our guiding philosophy is that the management of the facility should ensure it is a safe and welcoming space for people to attend 12-step meetings and activities. We also aim to ensure that Board duties do not jeopardise the sobriety of any Board member.
The Board welcomes input from 12-step meetings relating to the maintenance and operation of our facility. We also welcome new groups to join us. Please note that the SCC is not affiliated with any 12-step meetings – we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
